Chipolte is one of the most popular lunch spots for many businesses across the nation. Today the company announced that their credit card system was hacked. The majority of their restaurants were affected by the malware used in the attack. Chipolte does not know how many restaurants were affected, though. Thankfully, Chipolte has released a tool to help customers determine if the restaurant they visited was one of them.
“The malware searched for track data (which sometimes has cardholder name in addition to card number, expiration date, and internal verification code) read from the magnetic stripe of a payment card as it was being routed through the POS device,” Chipotle said in a statement. “There is no indication that other customer information was affected.”
